Ball Point Pens Have Many Disadvantages
Ball point and roller ball pens might not be the best option for writing after all. The mechanics involved in writing with a ball point or roller ball pen require that the user apply firm pressure to the pen so that the ball rotates against the paper and releases ink. Because of this, users tend to over-grip the pen and apply so much pressure when writing that they end up with pain in their hands and wrists. Sometimes this can even lead to carpal tunnel syndrome.
Another problem with ball point and roller ball pens is that the ink supply relies on the ball rolling. When the pressure applied is not sufficient or when the ball changes direction, there can be blank spots in the writing. There can also be blobs of ink caused by ink build-ups on the ball.
The Advantages of Fountain Pens
Fountain pens have several advantages over ball point and roller ball pens. The ink flows directly out of the pen’s nib, so no pressure is required to write. This eliminates the potential for pain in the hands and wrists. Fountain pens also offer a smoother writing experience, and they won’t skip or leave ink blobs.
Fountain pens can even improve a person’s handwriting and add flourish to it because nibs allow for variations in line thickness and shading. They are also available with a variety of different ink colors.
